Stewart Cameron a nefrológia egyik úttörője volt az Egyesült Királyságban az 1960-as és 1970-es években. Ő hozta létre az egyik első dialízis- és transzplantációs programot az Egyesült Királyságban, a Guy's Hospitalban. Bár felnőtt nefrológusnak készült, szívében gyermeknefrológus is volt.

We are sorry to announce the death of Stewart Cameron, former Professor of Renal Medicine at Guy’s Hospital in London and former ESPN councillor.
Stewart was one of the pioneers of nephrology in the UK through the 1960s and 1970s. He established one of the first dialysis and transplantation programmes in the UK, at Guy’s Hospital. Although trained as an adult nephrologist, at heart he was also a paediatric nephrologist. He also established paediatric nephrology services at Guy’s until the appointment of Cyril Chantler but continued to maintain his interest as an active ESPN member and served as an ESPN councillor in the 1970s. He was one of the very few people to attend the first ESPN meeting in Glasgow in 1967 and return again for the 50
th anniversary in 2017, where he lectured on the early days of dialysis and transplantation in children as part of the 50
th anniversary history symposium.
His academic output was enormous but he was also renowned as a gifted teacher and nurturer of junior colleagues. In terms of clinical care, Stewart was known for his championing of multi-disciplinary care, something we now take for granted but which was very innovative in an era of traditional models of medical-led care.
For nephrologists in the UK, both paediatric and adult, Stewart was one of those pioneer giants whose shoulders we stand on today.
